Nothing special, but pleasant characters (for the most part) make it an OK read. I was a little disappointed the victim (who we know will be killed) wasn't fleshed out more, and there were a few plot points I was confused about.

One odd point: the Introduction mentions a crime map being supplied to the detective when he arrives in the locale, and is noted that the author includes it in the book. But it is missing from this edition...?
