My first Carolyn Hart and loved every minute of it. The characters are rich and I want to get to know them better. Will read many more of her stories. Crazy about Annie and Max.

First in the Death on Demand series. Annie runs a bookstore in SC. There's always an interesting contest to name mystery writers in her books. And I've "discovered" a lot of new authors to check out from books she mentions in this series.

First in this great series, set in the Death on Demand bookshop. Multiple murder suspects who all happen to be mystery writers. A fun plot with engaging characters. Recommended!

Annie Laurence finds herself smack in the middle of a murder investigation, and the prime suspect as well, after a member of her Sunday Night Regulars writer's group is murdered in her bookstore.
I really liked the characters, they were rich, colorful and she was able to bring them to life, and her relationship with Max is humorous and sweet.
The only thing I could have done without, or at least a little less of, was all of the references to the multitudes of authors, characters and titles of mystery novels that are packed to the rafters in the book. I am okay with the name dropping, don't get me wrong. I even found a few authors I may check out, but every other page is scattered with names, plots and, on occasion, the solution to other mysteries like a rain storm on a clear summer day.
It's a nice touch and adds to Annie's character, but I'd like to see a little less of it, it was just distracting after awhile.
It was a true whodunnit, and I really did enjoy this book.

1st in the series. I really enjoyed the main characters and the book store setting. Had a few too many suspects for me, but I still thought it was a good cozy mystery and plan on starting the next book in the series soon.

At Annie Laurence's Death on Demand bookstore on Broward's Rock Island, South Carolina, murder most foul suddenly isn't confined to the well-stocked shelves. Author Elliot Morgan's abrupt demise during a weekly gathering of famous mystery writers called the Sunday Night Regulars is proof positive that a bloody sword is sometimes mightier than a brilliant pen. With Annie in the unenviable position of primary police suspect, the pretty young mystery maven and her wealthy paramour, Max Darling, embark on an investigation into a classic locked-room mystery with high stakes. For failing to unmask a brutal and ingenious killer could mean prison for Ms. Laurence. While success could mean her death.

Annie Lauance has retuned to Browards Rock Island to run her uncles bookshop after his death. Ever since her childhood visits, this part of South Carolina has always been home.

This isnt your typical bookshop, they specialize in mysteries and when a much disliked author is murdered during a weekly gathering of island writers all fingers point to shop owner Annie - who had just had her own blow up with Elliot Morgan.

Just when Annies life couldnt get anymore complicated her past comes for a visit in the shape of the very dashing and quite wealthy Max Darling. To win Annie back, Max starts his own investigating and with any luck he will exonerate Annie and get the girl of his dreams. That is if she would ever take Max seriously.

Carolyn Hart takes the reader on an interesting journey with this book. Though she does go off a bit with central characters living in tree houses, she incorporates famous writers and interesting mystery plots that remind the reader of past books and how enjoyable they were.

This was a really cute mystery, and a great read especially for those who like mysteries, because a lot of different ones are mentioned in this book. It's like a name dropping of mysteries--although I can't honestly say whether all of them are real or made up, as I'm not THAT into mysteries. Definitely a cute story though.

A fantastic begining to a delightful series. How can you not like a mystery set within a bookstore? The characters Annie and Max are wonderfully written, the mystery was well thought out and although there were no real big surprises within the book it kept you wanting to continue to read to see what Annie and Max would come across next. I definitely will read more in this series.

First in the series, Annie is new to the island and making friends with the local writers. Of course, there is a murder (or two, or three!) Max finally "finds" Annie and the adventure begins.
