I found it absolutely fascinating! Lots of anecdotes and similarities drawn between different characters in history. I mainly got this to work on my genealogy but found to my delight that for the first time I really understood the motivations for the actions of those long-dead kings and queens, saints and sinners. He also carefully lists what different medieval chroniclers say about each character, and I could get a better sense of their personalities. A few of the anecdotes were gruesome, but others were delightfully amusing. If you like history, royal or otherwise, this is the book for you!
