From the back cover: Nestled between fast-track Ft. Lauderdale and nouveau-riche Boca Raton, the once sleepy beach town of Palmetto is plagued by progress. The latest news has Ocean Vista condo-board president Stella Sajak and other residents in an uproar. Developers plan to raze the property and put up a glitzy resort. But when Stella says she'll go to City Hall and fight this to the death, no one thinks to take her statement literally. And when Kate begins to investigate the murder, she discovers that this little corner of the sunshine state is cursed with corruption, unsavory characters, and a very dark cloud overhead....

This was a surprisingly good book. The setting was quite different from the cozies I've read before (a retirement complex in Florida) and the ameteur sleuth a lot older than the norm, but these things provided a great background and character line. Very well done.

Great book! Reminds me of Miss Marple or Maud Silver (Patricia Wentworth-author)! Must read to the end to find out what happened!!
"Delightfully eccentric suspects" with light humor included.

I am enjoying Kate and her friends. This is the first in the series. Kate's husband drops dead after signing the papers to purchase a condo in Florida. Kate misses her friends and family back north and, as she tries to adjust to life in the sunny south, murders begin to occur. Kate wasn't married to a cop all those years for nothing!

Solid first entry in a series that features two feisty retired sisters who've moved to Florida to retire. Excellent cozy mystery.

This is the 1st "cozy mystery" I read. And I quite enjoyed it. With a much older protagonist (like my grandma). It was well written, quirkey, and laugh out loud funny. Nice one liners in this book. I do recommend this book, but read them all in order. This is the 1st in the series. With Kate and Marlene, and the other eccentric characters you can't go wrong with this one. A fast read. Very enjoyable.

From the back cover: Once a snowbird, now full-time resident and sometime sleuth Kate Kennedy is a "stylish and sophisticated Miss Marple...." Kate's husband Charlie, a 45-year police detective veteran, died the day they bought the condo to live in "the rest of their lives"...Nestled between fast track Ft. Lauderdale and nouveau riche Boca Raton, the once sleepy Palmetto Beach is plagued by progress. Developers plan to raze the condo property and put up a glitzy resort. Condo board president Stella Sajak says she'll "fight this to the death"..and someone takes her seriously. Enter widow Kate and friends. "A charming new series"....

"Death With an Ocean View" by Nora Charles is a light mystery and the debut book in the Kate Kennedy Senior Sleuth Mystery series. It takes place in south Florida where Kate has recently moved into a condo. Right after closing on the condo, Kate's beloved husband, Charlie, died, leaving her in a place she really didn't want to be and alone with few friends. However, when the first murder occurs outside her building, she and other seniors in the condos take on the job of investigating whodunit.

This isn't a complex, multilayered mystery, but it is a fun, cozy mystery with humor and a few tense moments. Kate's dog serves to lighten things up, as does her friend, Marlene, who can be very funny, outspoken and loud. It's a fun read for anyone who wants to relax with a light mystery but who still likes a good murder to solve.
