Lots of people loved this book, as was evident by the sparkling praise from numerous literary critics. The imagery was gorgeous and the description of food mouthwatering, but personally, I thought the narrator a bit too snarky for my palate.
If Nabokov's Humbert Humbert had shown as much appetite for culinary adventures as he did for a certain nymphet, this is the book he might have written instead of Lolita.
Not really a mystery or a thriller. Just a weird work of fiction. Strange and surprising.
