This might have been a stronger novel if we had witnessed Beth's "sale" and more of her father's behavior. At times, Beth seemed to be overreacting because we had not seen enough of her father's behavior while she was at home. Her fears seemed out of place because of our lack of understanding about her father's relationship with the family members and the servants.

There also wasn't enough positive dialogue between the couple. Everything was strained, so I grew weary of it. The idea for the plot was great, but execution was lacking. This story needed more meat on the bones of the plot outline. Overall score = G+.
