I had trouble getting into this story line. The main characters, though well developed, were not terrifically likeable until about the middle of the book... I tend to not give authors that long to catch my interest. Once I got through that hurdle, I started to enjoy the book. However, I wouldn't want to keep it in my personal library - and since I keep anything I would recommend, you get the drift...

This story takes place in rural Oregon where ex-Hollywood actress Jenna Hughes is trying to live a normal life with her two teenage daughters. Both girls are upset about being uprooted from friends and their father to live in the wilds of Oregon. Jenna is doing her best but life seems to be working against her. Feeling that something bad is about to happen Jenna starts receiving frightening notes at her home, and props that she has donated to the local theater have turned up missing. She thinks that this is just another case of a fan being a little to obsessed with her. She thinks she can handle it. She thinks wrong.

Another great book by Lisa Jackson!

~Former movie star Jenna Hughes left Hollywood for an isolated farm in Oregon to get away from her fame. But someone has followed her-an obsessed fan whose letters are personal and deeply disturbing. And while Jenna's already shaken up by what she's seen on paper, she'd be terrified if she knew what Sheriff Shane Carter is investigating. It's a shocking case that started with the discovery of a dead woman in the woods. Now two more women are missing, one of whom bears a striking resemblance to Jenna...
As a winter storm bears down on the Pacific Northwest, a merciless killer's grisly work has only just begun. And Jenna is getting closer to meeting her biggest fan...one who wants nothing more than to see her dead...

From Publishers Weekly
When beautiful Jenna Hughes moves with her two children to a small Oregon town in bestseller Jackson's well-crafted romantic thriller, the retired movie star expects to start a quiet new life, but a psychotic fan's deadly obsession soon throws the tranquil community into chaos. One by one, women are kidnapped by a serial killer who hopes to mold them into the likeness of his favorite actress, and Jenna knows that it's only a matter of time before she's the next victim. Jackson (The Morning After) weaves together various subplots, including Jenna's relationship with her rebellious teenage daughter and the inevitable love interest with the rugged local cop, to create a fast-paced and surprisingly complex story. Unfortunately, the focus on the villain's absolute evil rather than on his humanity doesn't allow him to be as disturbing as he could be, but most of the other smalltown characters are more believable. The depiction of the protagonist, a woman who desperately wants her life to be as normal as possible, reaches an unusual depth, and the crisp, skillful language infuses every sentence with suspense. Despite some predictable moments and over-the-top torture scenes, this chilling novel about the high price of fame will keep readers riveted.

I have recently become a Lisa Jackson fan and this one is definitely one reason why. A famous movie star has moved to a small town in Oregon to get away from the Hollywood lifestyle. However, a murderer has followed her. Pair this with a raging winter storm and you have a wonderful suspense novel. I couldn't put it down!

mystery/murder. When she wakes up she's cold. She cannot move or speak and then she sees him. The one that took her. Before she dies, she wishes she could scream. Women are dying who look like the main character of the book -- but the murderer is just perfecting his style to get it right when he gets his intended victim!

For my second Lisa Jackson book (my first of her "Romantic Suspense" novels) I'd have to say this wasn't what I was expecting.

It wasn't bad mind you, but didn't live up to expectations. As a fan of romantic suspense, I like stories that simultaneously build up both the suspense and the romance. Deep Freeze reads more like a suspense novel with a teeny tiny bit of romance in it, just so they can stick the 'romantic suspense' label on it.

Add to that, the build up....was a long and slow process. and we kept getting into the Big Bad's head which wouldn't have been bad, if we didn't get his perspective quite so often. Where I can usually finish a book in a day or 2, I kept putting this one down. I finished it within a week solely because I kept hoping it'd get better. It didn't.

I had a few other issues with the book as well... The hero that came off more as a jerk with something stuck up his ass for a good portion of the story than a Hero, the Heroines children who if you have your own, remind you why you were looking for an escape in the first place, or if you dont have kids, why you probably wouldn't want them. Also the heroines best friend, came off more as an acquaintance then anything else, and whole slew of secondary characters were introduced but we never we really got a feel for any of them. Plus the epilogue ends with a cliffhanger for Ms. Jackson's follow up book.

On the positive side, LJ does details well. She described the cold, seemingly unending winter and the main characters weariness of it. And The Bad guy was a surprise.

Over all though, I'd call this a dragging and frustrated Read. I may give her another chance if I can find the willingness to pick another of her books up!

Jenna Hughes had received twisted fan mail before--it was one of the reasons she'd moved herself and her two daughters from Hollywood to rural Oregon. But the letters arriving at her isolated farm are different, disturbingly personal--and coming from somewhere far too close for comfort. And when a dead woman is found in the woods nearby, Jenna fears that bringing her family here was a terrible mistake. Because each snowfall brings another missing woman--each of whom bears a striking resemblance to Jenna...

I quit Jackson because of the long boring descriptions she has in every book, it just takes away from a story that would probably be good if you left out all the unnecessary stuff.
