Helpful Score: 2
Another submarine thriller in the same vein as Tom Clancy but pacier and without the ponderous detail. The writing of course makes all the difference. A female protagonist discovers a master plan, a creation of a foreign government, and sets out to foil it. Her only obstacles are her bosses who do not believe the evidence. Woods appears to have researched this throughly.
A vey good read.

A fast paced espionage thriller about a young CIA analyst who is certain she's stumbled upon evidence of a renegade soviet sub commander who's desperate ploy just might start WWIII but cannot convince her superiors to hear her out.

A renegade Soviet submarine commander prepares a plan so outragous it might work.

The heroine is Kate Rule, member of the team at Langley Field assigned to keep tabs on Soviet moves. Emulating male machismo, Rule grows impatient with her colleagues' caution and flies to Europe, on the trail of a Russian agent who has recently disappeared. The narrative switches alternately between fraught events in Russia and America, as Rule's suspect masterminds an invasion of Sweden. The story is packed with horrors and close calls, up to and including the demand for the Swedish government to surrender at the threat of a blast from a nuclear submarine. All the way, Rule and her few allies are caught in seemingly inescapable death traps set by traitors, trusted officials in Sweden and in Washington.
Espionage told the way it should be told - high stakes and non-stop action.
This book is part of the Will Lee series. Russia is ready to invade Sweden when Kate Rule comes upon parts of the plan. When no one in the CIA will pay her any attention she goes off on her own. A real page turner with twists, turns and surprises.
A must for Stuart Woods fans. This is full of intrique and secrets w/in secrets. Katherine Rule, the heroine is not to be triffled with or dismissed by anyone. A good read.
While going through much seemingly unrelated intelligence, CIA analyst Katherine Rule discovers a chilling pattern; an ultrasecret Baltic submarine base.. a craft Russion spy-master in command...a carefully planned invasion about to be launched from dark waters.
Her suspicions, however, are dismissed by those higher up; her theory, they say, is too crazy to be true. But to Katherine, it's just crazy enough to succeed--unless she can stop it. If she's right, an attack sub has already penetrated friendly waters. Worse yet, the enemy has penetrated deep into her own life, so deep she can touch him. And in this game, one wrong touch can mean Armageddon.
There is non-stop action and will keep you turning pages even up to the end of the book.
The Lee family saga started in Chiefs is woven into the story in the background.
I enjoyed this book thoroughly.

great espionage
Excellent reading, excellent author.
I love Stuart Woods. This is one of his best books about Will Lee and Kate Rule.
This is a very good book in Woods's series about Will Lee, who later in his series of books gets elected to the Senate and the Presidency. I have gretly enjoyed them all!
CIA analyst discovers a Russian spy is planing an attack from a submarine. An entertaining book.
CIA analyst unearths a Russian spy plot and a secret Baltic submarine base. Starts with a rush, and hooks you. A really fun read.
A solid Cold War thriller, one of Stuart Wood's strongest books. While this book was written in the 1980s before the breakup of the Soviet Union, it is becoming relevant again with the current situation in the Ukraine. Even though this is part of the Will Lee series, the main character is Katherine Rule, but Will Lee does end up playing a major role.
Great thriller to the very end!
One of the best Stuart Woods books -- before he started writing the Stone Barrington books off the top of his head. A genuinely engrossing thriller, well-researched.
Thrilling....
If you like spies, espionage, etc., this is the book for you. And of course, anything written by Stuart Woods is gonna be good!
A departure from the usual Woods novel but quite good nontheless. Enjoyed it!
This book kind of started out slow for me but it did turn out good. I have just started reading Stuart Woods and he's been an easy read. I especially like his Stone Barrington stories.
I really enjoyed this book because it filled in a lot of the holes in this series. It was fast paced and entertaining. The writer, Stuart Woods, is one of my favorites because he has a clever sense of humor that keeps the story moving.
