The story is not good enough; and the brutality does not help it

Gripping story about two different groups going after the same evil 'monster', meeting casually and not knowing about the other's plans. Couldn't put it down once I started. The torture descriptions are extremely graphic and very disturbing. I had to skip over some, and I have a relatively strong tolerance of written-violence. Story had a bit of romance, but it wasn't distracting from the suspense/thriller aspect.

I have read a substantial number of the nineteen books Baldacci has written (up to and including this one), and I must say, in the category of thrillers, this is his best one yet. I loved it. Although not essential, it helps a great deal (in order to have a full understanding of the characters, Shaw and Katie Jones, to first read Baldacci's The Whole Truth.
Helpful Score: 1
Very well constructed mystery novel, many twists and turns, a throrghly enjoyable, hard to put down read. Baldacci is a masterful writer, I'm a great fan.

I loved this follow up to book 1, it was better than I could have expected. Baldacci never seems to leave any spots or options unturned.

Second Shaw and Katie James novel, although Katie didn't make an official appearance til pretty far into the book. I really like Shaw, he's got it all....brains and brawn and apparently sex appeal from the way the ladies go for him!
The horrifying acts of evil that their target, Evan Waller, committed, even though unspeakable, were not the sole reason that Shaw was after him. In his new crafted life, Waller is unrepentant and still finding ways to degrade human life and cause mass destruction with his dealings with our enemies.
A new "cohort" (Regina) enters the picture and unwittingly becomes entangled with Shaw when they find that they are on the same mission.
I found this book to be both provocative and thrilling, right to the very end. I'm looking for more adventures from Shaw.

Evan Waller is a monster.
Good start to an even flowing story that will keep you turning the pages.

Really enjoyed this book. Good pacing, realistic dialogue, not overly wordy in scene description, but just enough so that you are there every step of the way through this novel. Will read ore of Baldacci.

Book 2 in a loose series of Shaw & Katie James. A suspenseful thriller involving a group who are chasing old Nazis and killing them. Always good reading and a page-turner. I am hoping there is another book with these characters as the story has not ended, at least to my satisfaction.

Graphic torture scenes and a depressing ending has me planning to stick with the Camel Club from now on!
Good read, typical of Balducci. I have never read anything he wrote that I didnt like.
Enjoyed very much.

good
I loved this book. Very good story line along with romance and lots of adventure. I hope to see more of these characters.
This is not one of Baldacci's best. He still remains one of my favorite authors. The book is very well written and holds your interest. It is only after you have read the book and review it in your mind that you realize the plot left a lot to be desired. The ending was wierd. I would read it again and rated it four stars. I hope Dave will go back to his tried and true formula.
Drags in places; too much detail.
Very unsatisfying ending. Maybe if there was a book 3, that could be cleared up, but it's extremely unsatisfying.

This was a really good book. There is a lot of mystery, and tense situation that it keeps you guess right up to the end.
I have read a number of David Baldacci's books and loved most of them, this one included. He crafts a story that pulls me in to keep reading. I find I finish his books far quicker than most. Baldacci gives us a lovable insight into his characters, which adds to the fun and drama. He certainly did that here, with the hero, heroine and villain.
If I have one criticism of his novels, it would be that they sometimes end abruptly. At times, I have the sense that his publisher says, ok, time to go to press - end it now. When it could have naturally wrapped up with another 100 pages.
Deliver Us From Evil did end abruptly, however, not prematurely so. I loved the story and thought the overall design of the book and flow were excellent. As a bonus, we got to see a slice of Provence, London and Northern Canada that we might not otherwise see.
For a great " Who Done It " I highly recommend Deliver Us From Evil
