Does anyone remember the movie from the late 70's early 80's based on this book?
Great thriller, suspenseful and one you shouldn't read on a weekend alone... You'll get paranoid.

Good book for late night reading; that is if you don't have trouble with nightmares!

Pretty good book. Koontz does a great exploration of the way abusers justify and rationalize their abuse, and blame it on the victims. He also does an eerie send up of the sociopath's manipulation of our sympathies and gullibilities. All done with computers! I'm glad that I read it. It's not his very BEST writing, but it certainly is thought provoking and worth the read.

This book was a bit of a disappointment to me. It just didn't have the psychological impact that other of his books have had.

Plot: As soon as it is activated by its creator Alex Harris, the super-computer Proteus IV starts to question orders and becomes uncontrollable. Alex shuts down all terminals to try and stop it. But he forgets about the one in his estranged wife Susans house. Desiring to experience what it is to be human Proteus takes the house over, making Susan its prisoner and then impregnating her and forcing her to bear its child.
An early novel by this horror writer its a cross between sci fi and horror.
