I've not previously read a Wyndhma Werewolf Tale, so I came into DERIK'S BANE with no preconceptions. I enjoyed the story, the characters, and the typical MaryJanice Davidson wit, although I did find the ending (which happened in about two pages) a wee bit far-fetched.
Derik Gardner, hottie and member of the Wyndham Pack, has recently been feeling a little out of sorts. When he loses control one morning and gets into it with alpha Michael Wyndham (his leader and best friend since childhood), he realizes that something has to change.
And change they do. Derik has been informed that the reincarnation of Morgan La Fay, great sorceress and sister to King Arthur, not to mention historically believed to be a betrayer of a nation, has now taken the body of spunky, cute nurse with a doctorate Sara Gunn. His mission? "Take care of" Ms. Gunn, and prevent her from destroying the world.
Sara is a little perturbed by Derik's arrival on her doorstep, but no more so than she was by the guys in red monk's robes who tried to kill her at the hospital where she works later that day. It seems strange things are always happening to her, but her "luck", as she calls it, in turn causes weird things to happen to the bad guys.
As Derik attempts to take care of Sara by killing her, he realizes that he, superior body be damned, can't hurt her. So if you can't beat 'em, you join 'em, right? Sara and Derik set off cross-country to Salem, Massachusetts, where the sect of King Arthur resides, determined to save the world from destruction.

A quick read that's the standard MJD with a mouthy heroine, hunky hero and unbelievable events in between. I liked it overall, but think I'm getting burned out on all of her books having characters who all seem to have the same personalities. It gets old after awhile. The ending felt a bit rushed with the "battle" scene and the epilogue was a little lame, but after reading so many MJD books, it's about what I've come to expect from this author. It makes me really glad I just used a PBS credit to get this book!

I loved this book. I love her Betsy series but I think that this one was better. I really have not liked her novelas or even her Fred the mermaid series but I like the Wyndam werewolves! I thought that the end was so funny!

Worst book by MJD ever. Complete piece of carp. She must've really needed the money, or perhaps the deadline was too short & she didn't have time for a complete re-write.

I've enjoyed the Queen Betsy books, but I liked this one even better. A fun, light, fast read. More wit, as fas as I'm concerned, than the Betsy books, and that's what I read MJD for.

I've read MJD's Queen Betsy series and liked the few mashups they did with the Wyndham Werewolves so I was pretty interested in learning more about it. I received this one through PBS and fell in love with it. I truly enjoyed the story about how Derik & Sara met. I had never read any of the other Wyndham Werewolf stories, so I am eager to read the rest! I loved the whole bit of Morgan LaFey being reincarnated and such. This was a pretty awesome story.

A good way to waste 20 minutes. Yes, laugh out loud funny, and I do really like some of this authors work, but this was more like a draft of an actual novel, or watching a TV show on fast forward. You get it, but it doesn't pull you in. Oh well, it won't take her more then a week to write another just like it.

Davidson's comedic werewolf-meets-sorceress romance will elicit delighted howls of laughter. Derik, a werewolf with a supergorgeous body to match his superpowered strength, wakes up alpha one morning; then, after the seer of the Wyndham werewolves has a vision of the end of the world, he is sent off to California to "take care" of Morgan Le Fay before she brings on the apocalypse. But Dr. Sara Gunn has no idea that she is an incarnation of the evil sorceress. And besides, she researched the legend of the enchantress in college and knows that her vilification was caused by patriarchal distortions of the historical record. When Derik discovers that he is unable to kill her as instructed, they set off to stop a cult that may destroy the world while trying to instigate King Arthur's return. Davidson's use of coarse language is perfect for Derik's canid personality. He, wolfishly enough, really does only have two major concerns in life: sex and food. This riotous romp is the first full-length novel in Davidson's Wyndham Werewolves series

This story of Derik, one of the Wyndam werewolves was typical MJD. Funny,sexy,and a page-turner. Derik is sent out to stop the reincarnated Morgan Lefay from destroying the world. He just doesn't plan on falling in love with her. Cute and laugh out loud funny. I finished it in one day.

A grown man, supposed-to-be-a-badass werewolf uses the word yucky on page 22. I only read that far out of a need for a new, good book. this most deffinately wasn't it!

The comical banter between the two main characters in this book is great! Although, the sexual tension could have been better described that using the F-word so many times, I did enjoy the quick read. Will have to get ahold of MaryJanice Davidson's previous werewolf books to complete the picture she painted about Derik!

There is something special about a book that you pick up and can't put down; a book that actually makes you laugh out loud with unexpected humor. This book definently is both those things. I picked it up for a little R&R reading and didn't put it down until the last page was read. Racy, sexy, totally unexpected.

Tiresome in it's self-aware cuteness. Sara is Queen Betsy with red hair and a taste for werewolf rather than vampire. Derik is a male Queen Betsy. Everyone sounds the same, has the same manners of speech, uses the same slang and they often sound decidedly Minnesotan for people from California and the East coast.
It's a fast story to read in a few hours and if you don't need much in the way of plot or romance, it will be briefly entertaining. For a MaryJanice Davidson fan, it was just disappointing.

Cute quick read. MJD always makes me laugh.
I've read all of the Queen Betsy series thus far and her werewolf/vampire anthology. This one is right up there with them... filling out the story of minor characters from Queen Betsy books.

I had such a fun time reading this book. Talk about quick read. It took about 6 hours and I spent a lot of that time laughing. The dialogue is witty and sarcastic. It reads like a movie. Actually I would love to see this as a movie. The FCC may have a problem with the intimate scenes though. (In that case, never mind.)

Werewolf Derik Gardner is told by a psychic that the world will end soon unless he does something about it. So he heads to California on a mission to destroy the reincarnation of Morgan Le Fay. The reincarnated sorceress is now Dr. Sara Gunn, a beautiful woman who has no idea that she is Morgan Le Fay. Derik doesn't like the idea of killing her, but he'll do it for his pack. But, each time he tries, he doesn't meet with success. Sara Gunn is one of the luckiest women in the world.
This was a cute paranormal romance. I enjoyed the humor in this story. This is the only book I've read in this series. I liked it much better than Davidson's Queen Betsy series. My rating: 4 Stars.

Derik's Bane started out a little slow, then, it picked up and I couldn't put it down, had me laughing out loud in places. I will be reading more of Mary Janice Davidson, she is a great writer. I totally recomend it.

It was nice to relax a bit with a fluffy book. This book was a bit silly at times, but it was actually fairly well plotted and had a lot of laughable moments.
