I really enjoyed this one. Of course Kresley Cole is one of my favorite writers anyway so it's no surprise. I don't usually read historical romance but a friend told me how much she enjoyed this so I gave it a try. Good book.

I am a sucker for book where that main characters have loved each other for years. This one was particularly well done. The love story, the characterizations and the ploy was well developed. Unlike a lot of books, the relationship between the H/h felt very real. This is the second in a three part series. I've read the third book(If You Deceive)as well. Both are great, if a little angsty.

I wasn't sure I'd get into the MacCarrick Brothers books. I love Kresley Cole but I thought without the fantasy element I'd be bored and boy was I wrong. I might be biased but her MacCarrick Brother triology and her "pirate" series is the best of her work. In my opinion though romance novels are more personal than any other type of book, they tap into something very personal inside of each of us. For me her books have the right mixture of personality, romance and passion without just being hoakey and full of graphic sex scene. She builds up the relationships slowly and believably.

Four stars.
Another great read from Kresley Cole. Hero and heroine fell in love when she was just 17 and he was 22. It's now 10 years later and he's kept himself away from her because of a family curse which he believes puts her life in danger. When danger comes from an outside source, Hugh comes to the rescue.

A fairly predictable story and plot but romance books aren't about the plot, they're about the telling of the love story and Kresley Cole gets it right every time. The pacing of the romance and revelations about the characters was just right. Hugh was just enough of a tortured hero to set your heart beating faster. I'm not sure I completely get Jane but one thing I like about Cole is that none of her heroines are weaklings. Cole also establishes Ethan, star of the next book, and gets you interested in him, too.

I really liked how the heroine voices some very legitimate criticism of Hugh and his family for believing in the curse (and in the whole premise of the book!). It's the kind of stuff that bothers you when reading this type of story - and she has the character articulate those exact thoughts.

The love scenes are well written and spicy although not terribly creative. But they fit the situation and the characters well.

Kresley Cole can do no wrong. I've read a couple books that aren't my favorites, but I'll take a "weak" Kresley Cole over most other writers any day (not that this is even remotely bad).

The tension between Jane and Hugh was incredible. Cole knows how to do that better than most authors, really building to the climax!

Great read! Jane is so feisty! I love the fact that her and her cousins dressed up as men with fake moustaches to get into gambling halls!
