I love the Malloren books, and I did enjoy this 5th book in the series. I must say, though that I was somewhat disappointed in it ... perhaps because I had really been looking forward to Rothgar's story and it didn't live up to my expectations. Still, Jo Beverley is a wonderful author and I've never read a book of hers that I didn't like!

Fifth in the series of Mallorens...I was glad that she didn't make "Bey" a sappy mess at the end, he was able to retain his dignity and no blubbering crying nonsense. I also loved the heroine, Diana, strong, witty and independant, no sniveling miss here. It was a great pairing. I liked how they were equal in almost all things. Overall, I did like this book. So far book 3 and this one are my favorites. Moving on to book 6..
I gave this the highest rating, wonderful read.
From Publishers Weekly: "Beverley (Secrets of the Night) will delight readers with the fifth installment in her series of historical romance novels centered around the Mallorens, a dashing, aristocratic English family. Bey Malloren, the Marquess of Rothgar (who was introduced previously in the series), finds his match in the forward-thinking, sharpshooting Diana Westmount, Countess of Arradale. The wealthy heroine has voluntarily relinquished a future as wife and mother in order to keep control of her money and fully realize her power and rank in 18th-century Yorkshire. When King George III learns of her desire to take a seat in Parliament, he orders her to London with the intention of forcing her into wedlock with an appropriate suitor. Diana finds a traveling companion and unlikely ally in the powerful "Dark Marquess," and her resolve against family life falters. Though Rothgar is mightily attracted to Diana, he has sworn off marriage for fear of passing the curse of his mother's murderous insanity to his own children. The romantic tug-of-war is set against a lively backdrop of international intrigue, although an assassination subplot plays out unevenly. The love story fails to burn bright with emotion, but the intelligence and large-scale appeal of Beverley's characters ensure a satisfying escape." Copyright 2000 Reed Business Information, Inc.
Fifth in the Malloren series...the story of two strong-willed people, Lord Rothgar "Bey" and Lady Arradale "Diana". My thoughts...loved it!
I just finished reading this book for the second time (which is very unusual for me) This is such a good book. This is the last of the series of "Malloren" books and it is the story of the oldest brother (and patriarch of the family) the Marquess of Rothgar.
Beverley at her best!
#5 in the Malloreen Series, my favorite of the bunch, about Rothgar, the oldest brother and head of the family.
I read this before I started the series. I didn't get the attraction for each other. They are older and have everything they want. Then they find each other.
Good book. Strong Characters.
Two of the strongest wills in England clash when Lord Rothgar is commanded by the king to escort the fiercely independent Diana Westmount, Countess of Arradale, to London. Though Rothgar has become a master of resisting temptation, Diana proves a challenge to his steely resolve. A moment of peril and a night of passion melt his icy self-control, and he must find the strength to surrender his heart to another.....
Historical romance set in England. Two strong wills collide........
Fantastic!
Malloren series, Rothgar's story..excellent
I'm new to Jo Beverley and the Malloren series, but I have to say "Devilish" was the very best so far. The story of Rothgar and Diana held true to their personas from the previous books and the history of Georgian England. A beautiful, sensual love story.
