At his home in Dallas, John James Morrison knows he is in trouble by the nocturnal visit of the security agents. They escort John to AmMath where St. John Corbiel plays a tape in which they caught John violating company policy. John tries to bluff but Corbiel kills him. The security agents arrange a cover-up to make it seem like a night guard shot John while discovering him in a forbidden area late at night.
John's sister Lane Ward believes the official interpretation of her sibling's death rings false. She asks John's former partner Kidd to investigate her brother's death. Kidd, an expert on stealing data traveling along the information highway, agrees. He learns that John uncovered something major that led to his deliberate murder. Kidd and his partner LuEllen begin to uncover a monster conspiracy involving AmMath and the Feds using technology to hide murder and blackmail. That knowledge could make Kidd the next dead person.
It has been about a decade since John Sandford wrote a Kidd novel (see THE FOOL'S RUN and THE EMPRESS FILE) having switched to the popular Prey novels. Perhaps the earlier Kidd tales were ahead of the times, but with the Internet, Intranet, and Extranet explosion, THE DEVIL'S CODE plays like a modern day electronic thriller. The tale is well executed due to Kidd's intellect, witticism, and ethical beliefs. Although it may seem hard to accept an electronic thief has scruples, Kidd does and that propels his compulsion to investigate. Best selling author John Sandford has returned with one of his great characters in a story that will please more than just net conspiracy buffs because of its fast-paced, gigabit loaded hard driving plot.

great book...reads fast!
Kidd and LuEllen uncover the true reason a friend and colleague was murdered. It's not what his friend was looking for that got him killed. It's what he already knew. Discovering the secrets of the friend's firm, a high-tech Texas corporation, and its devious entrepreneur is job of these con artists. A delicious conspiracy that is fastinating and stunning in righteous crime. Full of action and provocative.
Kidd is a great character from Sandford. If you like his other books, you'll like this one.
John Sanford, the #1 bestselling author of the "PREY" series novels, resurrects some of his old characters: the irresistable Kidd and LuEllen- con artists, lovers, and liars- risking their devious necks for a just and deadly cause... A+++++ thriller!
This is one author I really like
murder of colleague gets Kidd into action to find out what happened- conspiracy.
good book, I just wasn't into the characters.
Another great Sanford book . . .don't miss this one!
Before the chilling Prey novels, Sandford made his mark with computer genius Kidd. Now Kidd is back, but his colleague Jack Morrison is missing, and Kidd himself is being targeted in a national manhunt.
When Kidd-artist, computer whiz. and professional criminal-learns of a colleague's murder,he doesn't buy the official story. Good story
Action packed!
A good action filled John Sandford book about Kidd & Luellen, con-artists, lovers and liars. Lots of suspense and humor is true John Sandford style!
Good Read

Hi-tech espionage

like devinci code type book too tech for me
Sanford's books are always good.
Sanford is always good.
I didn't understand any of this at all!
I'm into something a little weird her, I don't want to worry you, but if anything unusual should happen, get in touch with Kidd, okay. When the writer dies, his sister contacts Kidd---artist, computer whiz and professional criminal. Together with his sometime partner/sometime lover, LuEllen, Kidd begins an investigation which leads them both into a conspiracy at the highest levels---a conspiracy that could have stunning results for national security...and lead to Kidd and LuEllen's violent deaths. The Devil's Code is vintage suspense, vintage thriller---vintage Sandford. And that's as good as it gets.
