Like the stories earlier in this series, the men are strong and sexy (and either vampire or werewolf) and the woman are special in some way. This is the story of Tane (a vamp) and Laylah (a jinn half-breed). Tane is incredibly sexy in his mohawk and khaki shorts. Laylah has spunk that I could totally relate to. I didn't think it was the best in the series, but it holds its own just fine. Especially with the introduction of the Sylvermyst... oh, yum. :)

I had a hard time finishing this book, not the best in this series, the romance was taking so much out of the plot and it dragged. I'm still going to read the following books just because the previous books were so much better. I guess a must read to keep up with the story but not a keeper!

Tane is YUMMY! His story begins in the previous story, where he is chasing Layla thru the tunnels after she kills a cur. Her only reason for killing was self defense and her need to keep her secret. The child she is protecting may be the most dangerous being to enter this world. But Layla only sees an innocent child. Tane is drawn to Layla's vulnerability and spunk. I liked the two of them, the story is fast paced and enjoyable. Several of the previous couples make appearances in this story and as always, the charming gargoyle Levet is back to annoy the vampires and charm the women. This series is taking an interesting turn with new characters and a new path of evil. It all sounds very interesting and I can't wait to read Jaelyn and Ariyal's story. The only downside to this story was its length. The final battle scene took a little too long to play out and I skimmed thru a couple of pages. The last chapter was a cute ending, but Ivy didn't bring resolution to Layla's mother. Which, to me, seemed like a pretty important point to close up since she played a part through out the story.
If you haven't read this series, you should really start at the beginning so you can follow the path of all the characters. You won't be disappointed.

Paranormal action romance that starts pretty much at the end of book 5, Darkness Unleashed. At that point there are two tunnels and two sets of people being pursued. Salvatore took one branch and the results of that choice are detailed in book 6, Beyond The Darkness. Tane took the other branch and his adventures are covered in this book. That said this has all the marks of a bridging [one which sets up for future stories] book. It seemed to have less action than normal but the relationship plot was well developed.
Tane is a great character mohawk, shorts and bare feet in all weather and conditions and his job as Charon [basically vampire assassin in charge of killing off rogue vampires] makes him REALLY unpopular with his fellow vampires. And when he captures that half-Jinn he should deliver her to the Oracles immediately. But theres something about her
Then theres Laylah under an order of execution for being a half-Jinn bearing the darkest of secrets the last thing she wants to see is a vampire assassin nipping at her heels. But its not like she has a choice, hes there, hes not giving up, and hes sure acting like he wants to nip more than her heels
And finally theres Levet adding his own special mix of rescuing fair damsels and confusion to the enemies while driving the hero nuts.
Victor and Juliet, two supporting characters they visit in London, have their own story Taken by Darkness in the Yours For Eternity anthology.
Series is pretty sequential, better to read them in order.
