How did I not know any details about this novel?!? Dial A for Aunties = Weekend at Bernie's + Crazy Rich Asians + Pink Panther!

After seeing it all over last spring, I added it to my to-read list. Then I received a review copy of Four Aunties and a Wedding so I had to experience Dial A for Aunties before reading it.

This madcap farce centers around Meddelin Chan, a young woman who's been swept into the family wedding business, run by her mother and her mother's three sisters, after college graduation. On the eve of a very elaborate wedding, Meddy goes on a date arranged by her meddlesome mother with a tragic outcome. What follows is a campy story of trying to hide a crime while coordinating a 2000-guest wedding and solving a mystery with a little romance thrown in.

Even though this wasn't what I expected, it was exactly what I needed. Our family is going through some difficult times, and this audiobook made me laugh out loud and remember to not take everything so seriously. I appreciated Risa Mei's narration, especially of Indo-Chinese terms and names.

Everything is over the top - from character actions and reactions to the opulence of the wedding arrangements. But there's also exploration of family dynamics and expectations, a second-chance romance, and the marriage of two people who truly love each other.

If you haven't read Dial A for Aunties, I recommend it for when you need a change of pace.

The most outlandish book I've ever read; this book was NOT what I was expecting when I heard all the buzz about it. From a nonchalant murder to an over the top cover up of a corpse at a big wedding venue with all around unbelievable characters - if you don't mind unrealistic stories, then you might like this wacky book.

A cozy mystery in the vein of Vivien Chien's Noodle Shop series. I understand that this will also be a series and I would read the other books as they become available. The Aunties seem to be better developed than the heroine but hopefully that will be corrected as the series goes on. A quick, light read, would recommend it.
