i found Cordelia absolutely charming. How can you not love a character that can look great, even while cheating. The scene while they're playing dice in the carriage was great!
And plus, how could you not want to have a dashing, hunky hero like Leo come to your rescue? Man, he can rescue me anytime! LOL.
I enjoyed the detail that Jane did to describe the palaces and the real characters. I'm sure she gave some twists to the personalities of Marie-Antoinette and the King; but they were definitely helpful in the describing the scene of palace life and how they were supposed to act.

one of my least favorite by her. there is just something lacking in leo. cordelia gives him all of herself (as a 16 year old no less) but he seems to share nothing with her other than physical passion. also her husband, prince micheal, is very dark and twisted. it is heart-breaking and compelling, as well as well-written, but it is not 'romantic' romance.
part of the 'charms bracelet' trilogy.

Her only salvation is the man she fell in love with before her wedding, her husband's deceased wife's brother, Leo. Leo knows Cordelia's husband is no good but has no evidence to stop him. As Cordelia struggles against the man determined to break her, she discovers the secret that could destroy her husband and free her from her disastrous marriage.

I enjoyed this book and the twists it takes. Unlike so many romance books, this one keeps a very steady pace. I love the theme of the charm bracelet and all of the travels it has been through.

This is a historical novel set in France in the late 1700's. Jane Feather really has the details in place- outrageous lifestyles, the intricate machinations of the court at Versailles and the warped marriage customs of the day.

I liked the whole series and look forward to the next one. It was a thrilling trilogy and I like the way that this author writes. It is my first time reading any of her books.

Dear Reader,What comes to mind when you think of a diamond slipper? Cinderella, perhaps? Thats what Cordelia Brandenburg imagines when her godparents arrange amarriage for her with a man shes never met--a marriage that will take her to Versailles, far from the rigid confines of her childhood home. The betrothalgift is a charm bracelet with a tiny, glittering diamond slipper attached...as befits a journey into a fairy-tale future. But Cordelia--young, headstrong, and completely adorable--runs into trouble right away. Her escort to the wedding is the golden-eyed, sensual, teasing Viscount Leo Kierston. For Cordelia, its love at first sight. Yet Leo seems to see only a spoiled child--perhaps its the way she cheats at chess--and Cordelia is determined to show him the woman beneath. There is, however, no escaping her arranged marriage. Shes devastated to discover that her new husband is an utterly loathsome tyrant who will stop at nothing to satisfy his twisted desires. My heart went out to Cordelia as she struggles courageously against a man determined to break her spirit. But her husband has a secret, one that will bring down the vengeance of Viscount Kierston and all who have reason to hate him.I hope you'll enjoy this love story of two of my very favorite characters.Warmest wishes,Jane FeatherP.S. The charm bracelet makes its next appearance in The Silver Rose.
