A modern young teenager, Hilary, hates Jews, and joins a local Aryan Supremacy group. While in the hospital recovering from a motorcycle accident caused by her skin-head boyfriend, she is teleported back into Poland in the 1940's, into the mind of Chana, a young Jewish girl, as she gets moved into the Lodz ghetto. Chana's journey from normalcy to horror is chronicled by Hilary's observations, including the transport to the death camp at Auschwitz, where Chana and her few remaining relatives struggle to survive. This is a gut-wrenching book. I stayed up all night reading it!

The cover of this book is so beautiful in such a dark way. I was immediately drawn to it, and just knew I had to read it. Hilary is part of a neo Nazi gang and dislikes Jews in every way. She gets into a motorcycle accident with her boyfriend and while she is in a coma, she becomes a Jewish girl named Chana during World War II. Going back and forth from present day in a coma to Chana's journey from her home, to the Lodz Ghetto and finally Auschwitz we learn what life is/was like for both Hilary and Chana.

This book is very well written and the author tells a great, but very sad story. Everything that Chana was forced to endure broke my heart. I have read quite a few books about the Holocaust, but with each new one read, you learn of so many more different horrors of the Holocaust. I really liked the unique storyline and the characters. Even though this book is aimed at Young Adults, it can be read by adults as well. The content is sometimes difficult to read, but it is a great portrayal of life in the ghetto and camps. It was a great book overall and I am so glad I stumbled across it!

Really one of the best reads i've indulged myself in in awhile. Although this says young adult, it is also adult. It is a fantastic, gripping sad story full of suspense and gut wrenching hope. I loved it. If you are curious or interested in reading more about the strong that were sentenced to Auschwitz, then you will enjoy this read.

This was a book I started reading without knowing anything about it prior. It starts a bit slow but once it gets into Chana's story it gets really hard to put down. It really gets into the nitty gritty about what happens in the camps and what it takes just to stay alive. Overall it was a good book, and I'm glad I read it.
