VERY British..I loved it.
In the 4th book in this series about the English homefront in WWII, Lady Elizabeth is pleased to have the villagers grow Victory Gardens on the manor's property -- until someone digs up a body.

Another delightful book but I must say that having read the previous books helps a lot because you are rooting for Elizabeth's relationship with Earl to blossom. A lot of fun!
One of the best of the series. I am so sad there will be no more.
Elizabeth Harleigh Compton, house rich, money-poor keeper of the manor and the peace. In WWII England, the quiet village of Sitting Marsh is faced with food rations and fear for loved ones. But for the lady of the Manor House it means that she has to make sure things go smoothly, which means everything from sorting out gossup to solving the occasional murder. She has outdone herself this time. She wants to turn a plot of the Manor House lawn into a victory garden for Sitting Marsh villages. But as the community comes together to till the soil and sow the seeds, they discover a gruesome hurdle - the body of oneof her tenants. It's a deep secret buried in a shallow grave. And it's up to Lady Elizabeth to unearth the motive behind the crime.
In short - this is a good, old fashioned mayster with plenty of suspects, clue and red herrings.
