The blurb says Mr. Keating, a successful author of magazine articles, is 'still looking for his first home run.' Me too; I always seemed to have a hole in my bat. Heavy on statistics, but the good graphics carry them. There are various ways in which this skill is dicussed and Dave Kingman unfortunately is included. "Most of the players on this list of league HR leaders who carded the 10 worst batting averages in history were simply power hitters having off years. A few had at least some compensating defensive value, if only the ability to play a position without falling down too often. But none came close to Dave Kingman in being so utterly inept in all facets of the game save one: hitting the ball out of the park." Mr. Keating offers several more paragraphs crediting Kingman with outstanding numbers of home runs, but also notes he was surly to management, fans, and especially, to reporters. When he received no contract offer in 1987, he was able to win $829,850 in damages by claiming baseball colluded against him. Mr. Keating suspects all the teams said no to the problem child.
