The second Sofie Metropolis story was just as enjoyable as the first.

Sofie may be new at this "PI" business, but that doesn't stop her from taking on the tough cases. In this case, the mob ... and a missing ferret ....

Unlike many "cozy" heroines, Sofie doesn't just "trip over the answers" through gossip ... she thinks ... she detects ... and she learns from her experiences. It's refreshing to see a character that is so ... well, HUMAN!!

I hope Sofie is around for a long time!

A lot of people accuse this series of being a Stephanie Plum copy cat and that's not untrue. However, it is still a fun series with quirky characters and quick dialog. I've enjoyed both books in this series so far and I look forward to reading more in the future.

Sofie Metropolis is a Greek P.I. investigating the case of a missing man. She has run-ins with the mob, has to take on a case involving a ferret, and deal with her mother's suspicions that her father is having an affair. At times it felt like a copycat Stephanie Plum novel, but I really enjoyed the Greek aspect of the book, as well as the humor and light-heartedness. Pretty good read.

The tone is tongue in cheek, the heroine is a Greek girl who, after catching her husband-to-be with the maid of honor on her wedding day, is now a PI wanna-be and she has a huge crush on a sexy Australian bounty hunter. If you've read Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books this will all sound painfully familiar. In comparison (and how could one not make the comparison?) this one lacks. There is a lot of talk about Greek food and a few somewhat quirky characters but there is no Grandma Mazer here, just an old bat who wants to cook a dog and gives people the "evil eye" and it's all a bit bland.

The writing is light and breezy making this a truly mindless read. Come tomorrow I doubt I'll remember any details about it however . . .

After reading about 1/3 of this it seemed very much like a ripoff of the Stephanie Plum books. The tone was tongue in cheek, the heroine a Greek girl who, after catching her husband-to-be with the maid of honor on her wedding day, is now a PI wanna-be who has a huge crush on a sexy Australian bounty hunter. If you've read the Stephanie Plum books this will all sound painfully familiar. In comparison (and how could one not make the comparison?) this one lacks. There is a lot of talk about Greek food and a few somewhat quirky characters but there is no Grandma Mazer here, just an old bat who wants to cook a dog and gives people the "evil eye" and it's all a bit bland. Man, now I'm feeling even grouchier.

I did finish it and won't say it was a chore because the writing was light and breezy. It is truly a mindless read which is what I needed to distract me from thinking on a few things. Come tomorrow I doubt I'll remember any details about it . . .

When Sofie Metropolis decided to stop being a waitress and start being a private detective, she had no idea what she was getting into. With only a few cases under her belt, Sofie has inherited a dead women'a Jack Russell, fallen hard for a mysterious, charming Australian bounty hunter, and gained a rep for an itchy trigger finger. She even shot one of her clients. If you liked My Big Fat Greek Wedding, you will like this book.

If you are a fan of Stephanie Plum, then you will love Sophie. She gets in the same messes and has loads of great characters in her family. I have read this entire series and have enjoyed each book. It is what I would call a light read.
