I loved this book. It's almost like a grown up Bentley Little. Not like his other books. No gratuitous sex scenes, not a lot of violence. Just a good story. About a religous cult with a fanatic leader who rules with absolute control.

Oh boy do I miss the gore, gratuitous sex, etc. I call this effort BORING! If you love horror, dont bother with this one. Its like Little just mailed it in and added 100 pages of drivel just to fluff it up. Too bad he USED to write great horror!!
From the back cover:
The festival was intended as a getaway from UCLA for Gary, his girlfriend, Joan, and their friends. But soon after they arrive, Joan vanishes. Calls to her parents' home yield only dead air. Her school records are gone. And there's no evidence that Joan, or even her roommate, ever existed. Most disturbing of all is what they do find.
Amond Joan's belongings is a prayer written on a small scroll. It's a safeguard--and a warning--from something called the Outsiders. For Gary and his friends, it's the only clue. Now, if they want to find out exactly what happened to Joan, they must follow it.
But they may not like where it leads....
This caught me from the first and was very hard to put down!

This was a great book. Read it very fast. Not anything gorey or gross. Just a good suspense book.
This book was killer i loved it !
I have been a fan of Little for years but I must say I was a little disappointed with " The Disappearance".
It's a good story, if somewhat jaded, and there were a few twists which were interesting but it was not that compelling a story.
The first half of the book moves extremely slowly. There is an almost overboard attempt to develope the characters which results in a pace that is somewhat plodding. The second half moves along quite well but discloses few suprises.
It is worth a read, but is not amoung his best work.
