It's almost hard to even talk about this book. The absolute horrors that Herr witnessed were the same as those that served. His writing is stream of consciousness; heartbreakingly beautifully written nightmares. I've read many war books but this may be the most transparent I've ever read.
An insightful view of the Vietnam war from a veteran combat reporter. It's rare to get such unvarnished views of war from a non combatant.
