5 Stars! I simply loved this book. It didn't overwhelm me with too much drama, or too much religion or too much contrived conversation. It was just a very well written storyline...believable and fulfilling with a terrific ending. I can't wait to read more by this author.

This is more than a novel, a journey into two peoples lives that brings you to the edge of their experiences and beliefs and makes you focus on your own as well. I had a hard time through the first part of the novel, because I was unsure if I really liked the personality of the main character Elizabeth Westbrook. Yet as the story continued, and I was able to really look more on who she was and who she might be becoming I found that I really did like her.

The humor through out the entire book is true to life. Included with the hardships of live during and after war, as well as life in the West is a love and growth between individuals. It is something that you can read about, and then feel it within your heart and not just turn a blind eye.

Each character within this story has their flaws and they are these bits and pieces that make them so much more realistic and provide a reader the ability to relate. Every page brings something unexpected, and be fully prepared to shed some tears on the last page.

Tammy has done it again with this novel, so far every single one is a complete hit to my mind and I cannot finish typing this review fast enough to pick up the second book in this Timber Ridge Reflections Series, Beyond This Moment.

From a Distance a book by Tamera Alexander is adventurous romance novel placed in the Rocky Mountains in the time of the Western Expansion.Elizabeth Westbrook, a sick young photographer, decided to move West so she can take breath-taking pictures to get a position in the Washington Chronicles.
She climbs rocks and trees the first day that she is there and takes a lot of pictures. When she sees just the perfect picture of an elk a man comes out and shoots it dead. This man turns out to be Daniel Ranslett, a skilled hunter, who had been following this elk for three days to spare it from more pain. Elizabeth drops the plate with the picture, shattering it. They then make a deal that Daniel will guide Elizabeth on a one day hiking trip that will include taking pictures.
In the meanwhile Elizabeth meets the Tuckers, a family with a lot of kids that Daniel is friends with. She has some nice surprises like that of eating squirrels for dinner. She decided that she wants to go on a long journey in the Rockies. Daniel agrees to be her guide.
She embarks on a perilous with Josiah, her slave servant, and Daniel as her tour guide. It is March but still very snowy in the mountains. After that two catastrophes happen. When they set up camp a couple weeks later each of them describe how they survived an eventful battle in the Civil War a couple years before.
I rate this book three out of four stars. The book content was very skillfully described and presented. The author presents us a clear picture of the problems and secrets in each of the characters life. The only thing that I didnt like, which was very personal opinion, is that this book didnt really hold a lot of the essence of romance in it. It had a lot of adventure but not that much romance. Overall I would recommend this book to anyone.

This is book 1 is the Timber Ridge Reflections series. It would be classified as a historic romance but what I love is the romance is light... not overbearing... it is very real feeling... not fairy tale. There are other issues and circumstances happening and the romance is just a part of it all, not the main thrust. I am hopeful the other books in this series will be the same.

The setting is the late 1800s, after the Civil War. Elizabeth Westbrook has travelled from her refined upbringing in Washington, DC to the rugged wild west of the Colorado Territory. Her goal? to capture the grandeur of the landscape with her camera lens and send them back to the Washington Chronicle in hopes of becoming their next photojournalist.. and the first female on staff.

Former Confederate Sharpshooter, Daniel Ranslett is running from a past riddled with hurt and death and guilt. He will do whatever it takes to protect his secrets, his land and his solitude.

When Elizabeth and Daniel's paths cross it is not an easy passing. The two start off on the wrong foot and appears they will never find common ground. Then Elizabeth stumbles across a murder and finds herself in the danger. Her protection falls to Daniel as he is called on to repay a debt to an old friend. Forced to journey together through the Colorado mountains, these two come face to face with their pasts, their futures and each other.

Excellent book! Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Tamera Alexander has done it again! I thought that the Fountain Creek Chronicles series was my favorite historical romance series but this series, the Timber Ridge Reflections series promises to be just as good. This first book in the series was so great! Elizabeth is a lady photographer from Washington, DC who has come out to the "Wild West" to take pictures for the people of "The East". She has an ulterior motive, of course! I loved the way Ms. Alexander wrote the connection between Daniel, our hero, and Elizabeth! WOW! What a fantastic use of history! Perfect! Actually, one of my favorite characters was Josiah, a former slave who is Elizabeth's assistant. The story of his past will bring tears to your eyes. The last paragraph in this book completely choked me up and I had to stop reading because of the tears in my eyes! Well, the tears didn't stop there! Oh, how I love a good epilogue and this one....was the best I've ever read! Oh, good grief! What a lump I had in my throat! That's a sure sign of a fabulous book!

I believe Tamera Alexander is an author of excellence. Her book, From A Distance is the story of Elizabeth, a woman photographer trying to prove her worth, as she takes pictures of the beautiful Colorado wilderness. Her love interest is Daniel, a former Confederate Sharpshooter whose past has turned him into a loner. Circumstances place them together as they travel to the cliff dwellings for her to see and photograph. Josiah, a former slave is Elizabeth's assistant, who goes with them. Very interesting and entertaining as the characters get to know and help each other as they work out their differences. I highly recommend this book.

Determined to become one of the country's premier newspaper photographers, Elizabeth Westbrook travels to the Colorado Territory to capture the grandeur of the mountains surrounding the remote town of Timber Ridge. She hopes, too, that the cool, dry air of Colorado, and its renowned hot springs, will cure the mysterious illness that threatens her career, and her life. Daniel Ranslett, a former Confederate sharpshooter, is a man shackled by his past, and he'll do anything to protect his land and his solitude. When an outspoken Yankee photographer captures an image that appears key to solving a murder, putting herself in danger, Daniel is called upon to repay a debt. He's a man of his word, but repaying that debt will bring secrets from his past to light. Forced on a perilous journey together, Daniel and Elizabeth's lives intertwine in ways neither could have imagined when first they met . . . from a distance.

This is a beautiful Gift book. The Dress on the cover is stunning on Jessie Westbrook. Jessie 's father is a famous, celebrity man that many man have tried to marry her to get close to. Her dream is to be a great photographer and she goes west to Colorado. This story is sensational; Jessie loves children and meets many children and adults that she loves including a heartbroken man. She begins a new life but someone breaks into her boarding house room and violently breaks her camera and all her photography equipment. Who of all these wonderful folks would commit such a crime? The story begins and ends with a dead man. And in spite of all the wonderful trips through her new adopted state Jessie is almost murdered because of 3 men she knows. This book is a great who done it.IT swirls. You think you've got the story figured out and it spins in another reasonable direction.

Tamera Alexander is a great author.I have read several of her books and I have loved them all.
