I just finished the whole series - Recursion, Capacity & Divergence.
I think the author was extremely successful in his debut novel & trilogy.
Tony has furthered the British science fiction tradition and if you like Neal Asher than you will want to read this series. Tony weaves complex narratives & story lines with hard sci-fi - great tech - with wonderful humanistic details.

The thing I love about science fiction is that you can create environments that push & tweak the psyche to give greater insight into humanity. Tony Ballantyne created a wonderfully interactive environment that pushes & pulls at human destiny.

Divergence was actually the first new Sci-Fi novel I've purchased and read in years. As with many books, the art on the cover was the selling point for me. I thought, "I wanna read that story," when I saw the illustration of the android looking out a window at a landscape. Ballantyne has created just the type of Sci-fi I like, a story that's an exellent continuation of the influences of Bradbury and Gibson. Divergence could be considered the plot of I, Robot set a thousand years into the future. It's a five star story and work of art in my opinion.
