Wonderful insights into working with dogs, especially border collies, and sensible positive training tips, generally a charming journal of the first year in the country with sixteen sheep, three dogs, two donkeys, and a suburban dog writer. A great dog book in which no dog dies!

This is a great book. Katz writes in a very accessible way that appeals to animal lovers in particular, but anyone would enjoy reading about starting a new life on a cold new england farm.

This is a beautiful story of the author and the adventure he set out on with his dogs. And much to my delight, he lets the reader know from the outset that this is a book where no dogs die.

What a beautiful story! You fall in love with the dogs, the goats and even the author himself. In his efforts to train his herding dogs, Jon Katz learns more about himself than he ever imagined. Everyone should read this book.
