Paranormal/ Urban Fantasy by Lori Handeland, and second in the Phoenix Chronicles series. Elizabeth Phoenix is now the leader of a group, who's mission is to stop Doomsday. But, all of the members are scattered. The plot is so complex, and full of action, an unpredictable twists, that it's hard to describe. Elizabeth and her small entourage have to travel long and hard, to gather the clues they need to fight an ancient evil. And, Elizabeth has to make hard decisions, and has to understand true evil, before she can kill it. Great book, lots of action, twists that keep you guessing, hot sex scenes, and satisfying ending. Looking forward to number three.

Liz Phoenix - who reminds me of Mercy Thompson - is amazing. She does whatever needs to be done regardless of the cost to herself or anyone else in her quest to stop the apocalypse from happening. I really like Sawyer. He's been so abused (as a child) and was so withdrawn from socity until Liz entered his life. Maybe there is hope for him yet. And poor Jimmy Sanducci. He's been terrorized and turned dhampir - half vampire/half demon. He hates himself and wants to die but Liz won't let him since the Federation needs all it's soldiers. I hope he makes peace with his beast and with himself.
I liked this better than Any Given Doomsday but maybe just because I knew all the characters and the purpose which wasn't all that clear in the first book.

This was a great book. It keeps your interest throught the entire book and was vey unpredictable. I love this series, it has great romance and suspence. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
