I'm a huge Linnea Sinclair fan and I think her "An Accidental Goddess" is one of the best books I've read in a very long time. She might have been designed to be one of my favorite authors since she combines rip roaring science fiction with a good bit of romance.
So I really hate to say anything negative about a book of hers, but this one just didn't grab me the way her other novels have.
There were a number of details that bothered me, such as the fact that the heroine knows an interstellar language that is almost the same as English. I know there has to be some way for the main characters to communicate, but really! And there were other things like that.
Still, my main trouble was that the characters just never seemed real to me. I can't pin down exactly what was missing, but my emotions just didn't engage with the people and the plot.
Please understand, an OK book by Sinclair is better than the best books by many authors, but given the magic of her other books, this one was a disappointment.

Judging by the title, I didn't think I would like this book. But, being a fan of this authors other works, I decided to give it a try and am very glad that I did. Once I started reading, I had a hard time putting it down. While I thought the "zombie" thing was a little lame, my enjoyment of the story overshadowed by distaste for the zombies. Good read.

So basically - what I usually think about Sinclair's books - lasers, spaceships, sci-fi, action fun stuff which I seem to love right now. Space opera, yay! This is totally that. Oh and kissing, as you see on the cover. Jorie Mikkalah is a Guardian Force commander trying to kill all the zombies on the "nil" planet Earth, while Theo Petrakos is a divorced cop who gets caught up in the crossfire, eventually joining up with the Guardians to help save the planet. had a good time reading this. There were some interesting dynamics in here (a love triangle and some bad exes), and there wasn't a silly misunderstanding between the two characters - no silly drama, just a real worry about how they are literally from different worlds. I liked the romance (but my favorite is still Games of Command), and it was balanced well with the plot of the zombie invasion problem. I liked how the language differences were overcome (Jorie realizes that English is like the alien language of Vekran) and they do kind of get to know each other as they improve their communications. I also liked how Jorie is independent and can take care of herself - she's better what she does than any other guy in the story, so thing that nagged at me was how often Theo would try to save her. He'd throw himself at her while they were shooting in order to get her away from some tentacle. But he's the zombie-killing novice, not her. Oh well. That's a nit.

Sci-Fi romance by Linnea Sinclair. My first by this author. I enjoyed it. Jorie fights to eradicate monsters that were created for a specific purpose, but have mutated. She follows them to Earth, were Police Officer Theo gets caught in the hunt. I enjoyed this story. Gotta love a gal that wants to call Peanut Butter, "Glorious Butter!" And Theo is able to admire Jorie for being a strong, capable woman. The romance is sweet, both Jorie and Theo are attracted to each other, even though vastly aware that they are literally from different worlds. I'll read another by this author.
I loved this book, it was so different from what I normally read. I looked, hoping this was a series, but didn't see any connecting books. I do hope she plans to continue with one!
Not quite up to Sinclair's other books, but if you have not read her other books then you'll enjoy this one. I have read her other books and this one pales in comparison. I just could not get into the zombie thing, although I give Sinclair credit for putting an unusual spin on zombies. Some good humor, and enjoyable romance line.
