Hardwick's service and mine in the USMC overlapped. He was getting out while I was joining the Fleet Marine Force. But soon I was also in Viet Nam, and spent 18 months overseas. I'd say this was a good memoir of service there and really portrayed the experiences of a junior officer.

When I arrived "Down South," I quickly realized that my primary duty was to make sure as many of my men as possible returned home in one piece.
