The exact details of this particular book, 14th in the Dr. Delaware series, are a bit sketchy for me now, a year or so after reading it. I can definitely say that it was a good read, classic Jonathan Kellerman and Dr. Delaware fans will enjoy it!

This Paperback (not hardcover) novel is another Dr Alex Delaware, psychologist-detective, who-dunit. Eldon Mate was a former physician who assisted the terminally ill in dying and was known as Dr Death. When his mutilated body was found hooked up to his "killing machine", Alex is asked to aid his old friend, homicide cop Milo Sturgis, in the hunt for the death doctor's executioner. With page turning suspense and vivid portraits of L.A.'s darkest side, Kellerman's latest tale of psychopathology taken to the extreme delivers an unforgettable journey into the most sinister corners of the human mind.
Who killed The Killer? Somebody chose to "dispatch" the self-styled "Dr. Death" by hooking him up to the killing apparatus in his own van. Dr. Eldon Mate, Dr. Death, was responsible for a score of assisted suicides. Now he's the one who's lying lifeless. Join the cop and the psychologist who team up to find the murderer.
Dr. Death has Dr. Delaware doing his finest work. Jonathan Kellerman is at his best writing about Alex Delaware -- this is a true psychological thriller. Delicious!
I liked this book. Kept you guessing has to 'who did it?' and the end was a surprise for me. Not too easy to put down!
This was not one of the better kellerman books

Good story just a little slow for me.

From Publishers Weekly
A series of well-publicized gentle deaths are the work of self-appointed angel of mercy Dr. Eldon Mate, who attends to the terminally ill in cheap hotel rooms or in the back of his van. Now Mate himself is dead, carved up and found by two joggers and their dog on a high road above Los Angeles. Like Kellerman's previous bestsellers, this title features psychologist Alex Delaware, whose self-righteous pomposity blends neatly, as it has before, into a narrative liberally dosed with psycho-angles and agreeably warped murder motives. This time out, Delaware works with cop Milo Sturgis and counsels Stacy and Eric Doss, two teenage children getting over their mother Joanne's death, which Dr. Mate seemingly helped to hasten. In his dual role, Delaware encounters a rogue FBI agent tracking a killer obsessed with Mate; Mate's disturbed son; and Richard Doss, the kids' father, who by slipping cash to a shady character in a dark bar is marked as a prime murder suspect. Joanne's illness too proves mysterious. But Kellerman isn't in top form here. Most annoyingly, the FBI guy does the bulk of the sleuthing legwork, while Delaware spends much of the book either making love or pontificating on motivations for characters all very similarly flawed. The ending is agreeably tricky, but by then great gobs of Delaware have either delighted Kellerman's faithful or else turned readers' stomachs in a way that serial deaths, gentle or otherwise, may have somehow failed to do. Kellerman's rep and the book's strong, geometric cover will send this one on to the lists.

Another one of my husband's favorite authors: Jonathan Kellerman. Enjoy :)
I love the Dr. Delaware and Milo Sturgis series.
A 2000 and the sixteenth of many Alex Delaware mysteries by Kellerman. I read this book a couple years ago, during my Jonathan Kellerman phase, I forgot most of it.

No one does psychological suspense as well as Jonathan Kellerman.
Not my favorite Alex Delaware novel, but still a great read.

One of his best!
Very well done murder mystery set in L.A. Kellerman weaves a complicated cast of characters and circumstances to a satisfying conclusion.
Jonathan Kellerman's latest tale of psychopathology taken to the extreme delivers an unforgettable journey into the most sinister corners of the human mind.
good condition. minor shelf wear.
When Dr. Eldon Mate, a passionate advocate of physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia, is found dead, murdered by one of his own death machines, LAPD homicide detective Milo Sturgis and his friend Dr. Alex Delaware are on the case.
As always, Jonathan Kellermans books are page turners. Tightly plotted with lots of twists. Love Alex Delaware.
