I absolutely loved this book. I first read it several years ago, but then I lost track of it. I just recently found another copy of it and was able to re-read it. It was just as good the second time around. Although it's part of a series as well as a mega-series, you really don't need to read any of the other books in order to understand this one. In fact, I tried reading the book right before this one, and I found it rather boring. I tried reading some of the other Dragonlance books as well, but I found them pretty boring too.
But this book has wonderful, interesting characters, lots of well-written battle scenes, humor, irony, the birth of a new species, etc. Just wonderful, with some underdogs that you can really cheer for. I highly recommend this to anyone.
