This was a very detailed archaeologic murder mystery. I have been a big fan of Lisa See's novels "Snowflower and the Secret Fan" and "Peony in Love." It was hard to tell that this was the same author. Personally I found the book very dry and way too much history, but any history or archaeology buff would probably appreciate it. I guess there are 2 other books in this series with the same lead characters, and anyone who likes this book would presumably like the others.

After visiting China and the Three Gorges Dam, it was insightful to read this novel which takes place before the dam was finished. Good writing, good storyline. This is the last in a trilogy, read the first one (also very good) and now have to find the second one in the series.

Excellent mystery that incorporates Chinese History. The mystery of the caves is wonderous, as is the human story of our heroine.
