Dreadnought is the non-fiction book that did what I thought nothing else could: get me interested in reading non-fiction almost exclusively, and get me interested in World War 1.

Dreadnought is a book about more than just the evolution of the war ship; it's more than just a book about Britain and Germany's arms-race leading up to the Great War; it is a book that thoroughly looks at the decades building up to World War 1, the economic situations, the royal relationships, the colonial squabbles, and the overall interworkings of many of the European powerhouses.

Though this book is long, it is not nearly long enough for my taste. Robert K. Massie is one of the finest (if not the finest) writers of non-fiction, and Dreadnought is his best work. Dreadnought is a very compelling, very informative masterpiece worth any reader's time. I recommend this book for any fan of literature - but it's an absolute must for anyone interested in history of warships, World War 1, German/English history, (history fans in general), non-fiction fans, and biography fans.
