The Kowalski family has owned the Northern Star Lodge for three generations; but as his siblings move away to live their own lives, Josh Kowalski has been saddled with keeping it a profitable business. The housekeeper's daughter, Kate Davis, grew up with Josh and has always been his best friend. But Katie has been waiting for Josh to notice she isn't one of the guys. Actually, everyone in town has been wondering when they would get together. Josh is the only person who doesn't see that things have changed. Now Josh may have a chance to leave the lodge, leave Maine, and leave Katie. He has to figure out what is right for him.
It was clear that Josh would never be happy at the lodge unless it was his own choice to stay. Josh felt trapped by circumstances and just wanted out. His feelings for Katie were a whole different matter. Josh is oblivious to their changing relationship. I loved that Katie's mother, Rose, kept steering them together. The comments from the family and townspeople about Josh and Katie were hilarious.
I've been looking forward to Josh and Katie finally having their own book. I have to say it didn't quite live up to my expectations. I felt like they went from friends to lovers a little too quickly (even though it took years). Also the resolution of the whole leaving Katie behind storyline wasn't satisfying to me. Overall, a good book that could have been great. My rating: 4 Stars.
