Extraordinary finish to the two series books "Shanghai Girls" and "Dreams of Joy"! I learned a lot about Red China and the horrible plight of the Chinese people during that time, especially the peasants. The beautiful love story of Joy and her family is poignant and so real. Wonderful book!
Loved this book! For anyone who enjoyed Shanghai Girls, this book is a must read.
I loved the historical detail and challenges posed to the characters in Lisa See's Shanghai Girls. Here, however, the premise of the book is so utterly unrealistic and untrue to history that I couldn't read very far into the book. This book's opening scenes also seemed to portend a train wreck of black-and-white thinking about China, which wasn't found in See's earlier book.
Well written and as good as Shanghai Girls.
I thought it was a great book. Lots of research obviously went into it.
Enjoyed both books
