The dress was in the front window hanging on a wire hanger for the second week at the thrift store. I noticed it because it was bright white, fluffy, and it was next door to the video rental place I went to a couple times a week. When I first saw it I thought that it was from the 80's with just a glance as I ran into the next to where it was. Whoever wore that dress probably paid a couple thousand dollars for it, and kept it in the back of thier closet for safe keeping. I imagined a terrible break-up in the marriage and the dress probably went from the moving truck to a storage unit to under a bed in a small apartment. Along the way sequins fell off, the lining was halfway ripped out and the shape of it was all but lost. I thought that it would be gone and at a seamstress' sewing machine before the day was over. We live near an army and airforce base so there are alot of weddings going on. With each time I passed it I was amazed that it was still there and wanted to stop in to see how much they had the dress marked but each time they were already closed. Tonight as I returned my DVD's next door I remembered one of my favorite scenes in Pretty in Pink and was hoping that the dress will get another chance at a future. Remember Molly Ringwald making that hideous dress into a OK dress for the prom that Andrew McCarthy was suppose to take her to? Tomorrow I will finally go into the store and look for myself to see if there is any life left in that dress.
