This book is so dull and so poorly written. There are so many other better books about women or families struggling under the Taliban. Some things were so unbelievable, about how BOOM in one day our character makes a dress and becomes a master seamstress. I think the fault of that lies with the story teller not the true story. The time lines read like a kids books, so simple, and dull. By page 104 of 234, Nothing much has happened, but she gets her second order for clothes.

Try some other books, because you will feel bad that you wasted your time. If you already know the basic story, you will be bored to tears. I was bored so I went and checked on some reviews on Amazon, because I didnt like the book, and needed to see if others agreed with me.

This book is a nonfiction account of one family's struggle for survival in Afghanistan. More importantly, it is Muslim woman's story of hope and triumph in overwhelming circumstances. To hear a woman's perspective about the country and regime is unusual. It is a great addition to what has been written about that part of the world. An added bonus is that this book reads so much like a story that I had to keep reminding myself that these events are nonfiction. I read it in one sitting, something I usually cannot say about nonfiction.

This was a really interesting and inspiring read. I would have liked a little more details on some of the business aspects and how the author met and interacted with Kamila and her sisters and friends. But overall I really enjoyed the book!
