The authors employ a broad, general definition of ADD ("high-energy, action-oriented, bottom-line, gotta-run-type people") and continually emphasize the special, positive qualities of people with ADD. They describe how ADD affects adults--many Americans mistakenly think of it as a childhood curse--and explain how the American temperament helps create ADD-like symptoms. Best of all are the stories and case studies of myriad folks who have dealt successfully with their diagnosis. A state-by-state list of support groups are included in this excellent approach to an intriguing subject.

This is perhaps THE one book you need to address your own or someone else's ADHD. It was enormously helpful to me in dealing with my daughter. Do read it.

I read this book because someone close to me is suffereing with ADD. It certainly helped me understand. I would think if one is trying to cope with this situation this book could be helpful. It is quite optomistic. There are case studies of those who have learned to cope and had successful, fairly stress free lives.

Through stories of the experiences of their patients (both adults and children) Drs. Hallowell and Ratey show the varied forms ADD takes--from the hyperactive search for high stimulation to the floating inattention of daydreaming--and the transforming impact of precise diagnosis and treatment.

So much information about ADD in adults (and also all ages). If you have any wonder about how ADD affects an adult...you need this book. AND, if you live with any that have you infuriated, this might help you to realize that it really is the way they are 'wired.' Very helpful book.

I enjoyed this book very much, and was shocked by the many different aspects of ADD/ADHD. There is so much more than hyper-activity with these disorders, and sometimes, hyper-activity isn't even a factor. So many concerns of mine were answered with this book. Another thing I really liked, was the numerous examples of different families and their struggles, and the recommended solutions.
