OK, wow, this book exceeded my expectations. The writer portrays a futuristic landscape - post nuclear with extreme climate changes, governed by a corrupt New Government Organization and by big business (headed by bad guy Duncan Bane). There are two extremely interesting protagonists. Raina Bowen is in hiding from Duncan Bane, and determined to win the 50 million interdollars awarded in to the first trucker to deliver their cargo to Gladow Station. Wizard is the contact she was supposed to meet at Bob's Truck stop so that she can get a special license to ride the ICW, the Intercontinental Worldwide. Only things go wrong and the two are thrown together for longer than expected.
I enjoyed how Wizard had a robotic personality - like Data on Star Trek he takes things literally and has a hard time with human interaction. Raina is similar but not such an extreme case - she keeps people at a distance and has long hardened herself to expect betrayal. I enjoyed how she pointedly shoved Wizard away when he encrouched her space and hid her emotions even when she found herself attracted to him. It was an interesting relationship to see develop between the two. I thought the author did a great job blending both light science fiction and romance. Lovers of only one of those camps may be turned off by the presence of another genre blended in here, or they may enjoy reading something different. I definitely liked the blend. There are sex scenes and while they did go on a little, they didn't feel gratuitious. The world-building was done well - information was given as needed, not as a huge info dump, and the plot was action packed and well paced, even till the end. There was a good balance between the story and the focus on the relationship. I'm very pleased with this one.

Just finished this book. A great read. Can't wait to read the next book.
This futuristic has tremendous action with great battles. But Wizard and Raina steal the show. And that is the way it should be in a romance; no matter what genre. The romance that develops between them takes your breath away. Both characters are hard (like the environment) and almost seem unfelling yet the characters grow and become lovers and are ready to die for each other.

Wow. My first Shomi read, not my typical genre and yet, I am happily hooked. Simply a great read - highly recommend! I believe this is the first book I have ever rated 5-Star. No, it isn't filled with earth-shattering soul redefining reflections. It's simply everything a fun, fast-paced fiction should book should embody.

This book is sort of like a combination of Ice Road Truckers, Mad Max, and Dark Angel but with some (not a lot and not too graphic) sex onscreen. It got better as it went and really picked up about the halfway point. There's action, romance, sparse worldbuilding, and an interesting resolution. I admit to finding it hard to get into the beginning due to some repetition, and the hero's emotionless demeanor and formal speech, but turns out there were good reasons for it that come out around the halfway point. It was a good enough book for me to want to read more by this author.

Good read, action plot. Futuristic ice truckers in a post-apocalypse world... It has likable characters [with a twist in Wizard's case] and a page turning plot.
The 'frozen wastelands' make a great read for those hot and sticky summer months. Threads are placed for future books. Read in order.

Note: Pen name for Eve Silver
