I really liked this book. Sometimes you just dont know about a new series or a new author. I lived in New Hampshire, where my husband family still lives, so the setting appealed to me, and was well portrayed. I liked the relationship that was developing between Graham, the animal control guy, and Dani the main character. I think the trailer full of released exotic animals really added to the story and gave the characters an excuse to interact. I had no idea who the murderer was, because everyone of course was suspect and lying about where they were Friday night. The main character was a sweet, smart, girl, that is the baby of a large close family. Dani is trying hard to be treated like an adult by her big family. I liked the ending, and I will be reading book 2, and book 3.

I didn't really care for this book in that I thought Dani was spoiled, childish and snide. She just wasn't a likeable person to me. She didn't seem to like her family much, I began to wonder why she just didn't move away. Someone else might enjoy it better.
A quick entertaining read. The characters were quite enjoyable, she sure has a BIG family and all "off" in their own sense making for great entertainment. A local truck driver went and set a bunch of exotic animals loose because he got tired of the "talking parrots" he had put in the front seat....so besides trying to run a Maple Syrup Business it also let loose a bunch of wild animals in the country with a games keeper trying to catch them or maybe Dani. All the ways these people ate and used maple syrup sure made my sugar go sky high! Cute, good story !
First in a series set in a small town in N.H. with maple syrup as a main topic along with a mystery. Includes recipes. Fun to read about missing exotic animals, family, and romance. I plan to continue the series.
