Detective Angie Pallorino works in the Metro Victoria Police Department Sex Crimes Division. When a comatose girl is found lying in a cemetery, sexually assaulted and mutilated, Angie sees similarities to other unsolved rapes from a couple of years ago. She wonders if their serial rapist is back. Homicide Detective James Maddocks is assigned to a case where a body has washed up under a bridge. When they discover that this victim has also been sexually assaulted and mutilated, a task force that includes Pallorino and Maddocks is quickly put together. When Angie meets Maddocks at an autopsy, they are both speechless with the knowledge that they had an anonymous interlude at a hotel the night before. Now they must work together to catch a killer whose crimes are escalating.
Wow. I loved this book. The characters are fascinating. Angie's life is in turmoil. Her mother has just been placed in care for early onset dementia and schizophrenia. Angie is wondering if her illness is hereditary since she is beginning to hallucinate. Or do the hallucinations have to do with the pressure she has been under since her partner was killed in the line of duty a few months ago? James Maddocks has just transferred to Victoria to be close to his daughter who is attending college in the city. His marriage has fallen apart because of his job. He just wants to salvage his relationship with his daughter and do his job.
The suspense in this story grips you from the beginning. As the police task force investigates all leads, they wonder if they can find the killer before he targets his next victim. My rating: 5 Stars.

Oh where to begin---mainly I hated the writing
1. 500 pages? really? awful
2. about 25 pages into the book there is a graphic porn scene of sex with a stranger in a motel
3. main character is unlikable and most of the main characters are like that---unlikable
4. meanders all over the place with 'thoughts' 'emotions' that just takes up pages
5. main storyline gets lost in all the unnecessary garbage
6. foul language all the way through and I mean foul, really? do all cops talk like that? I doubt it
this needed a lot of editing to get it down to a tighter thriller but publishing it like this? just too much mud to trudge through for 500 pages!
