The second book in the Heritage of Shannara series finds a group of friends on a quest to find a black Elfstone, an item which could help them force the dreaded Shadowen out of their world. All of the early Shannara books are good (except for maybe the first one), but this series within the series really put the books on the map. The characters in this book are very likable and you can truly feel their triumph and pain in the book. One of the best in the series by far!
