This was such a fun read! Loved the storyline, fast paced and action packed, loved the characters, flawed, fun and likable, loved the kids and the secondary characters. Great all around read!

One of the best of this series. While you can definitely read the books in this series as standalones (though why would you want to?), you really need to read this one before reading the final book in the series, DUKE OF DESIRE, which is due out 10/17/17. I have read and enjoyed each and every one of the books in this series but this may be my favorite. Hoyt again gives us Historical Romance at it's best with some mystery and humor mixed in to up the enjoyment. If you haven't started this series (I so envy you being able to binge it) or aren't caught up, get to work cause it's almost over and you won't want to miss the awesome ending book coming out in less than a month.
Hugh Fitzroy, the Duke of Kyle, has returned to London after the death of his estranged wife. The king has asked him to find the members of the Lords of Chaos and destroy them. To do this, he needs someone to gather information for him. Hugh hires Alf, a street-smart boy who survives by passing information for money.
Alf has two identities. By day she has survived on the streets by making everyone think she is a boy. At night she is the notorious Ghost of St. Giles, saving people who walk the neighborhood streets from ruffians and killers. Alf is only too happy to help Hugh with his task against the evil Lords of Chaos. But how will Hugh react when he learns the street urchin is really a woman.
This is another enjoyable book in the Maiden Lane series. Alf was introduced several books ago, and I've been waiting for her to get her own book. Hugh Fitzroy was a wonderful hero. Their romance is very entertaining. The only thing I didn't care for was the "big misunderstanding" near the end of the book. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

I'm going to have to say I think this book is my favorite of the Maiden Lane series. (Yes it beats- just barely- Thief of Shadows). Hugh is one of the King's illegitimate children. He was acknowledged and was given a Dukedom. He works undercover for the King. A widower who was unhappily married, he left and went overseas and is now back in London after his wife's death. Alf has grown up in St Giles. She dresses as a boy, because it is safer for her and she can go about her day. Alf is good a getting information. She is also the Ghost at night. Alf has been in previous (all?) books. I was super excited to read her story.
I liked that Hugh involved her in just about all the discussions about the Lords of Chaos and continued to do so after her sex was discovered. She played a significant roll in his rescue at the end and in the apprehension of some of this group. The only thing I would have liked more of was at the end. How are they going to work together? Hugh had mentioned more than once how their skills complimented the other.
Next is Iris and Raphael- both introduced in this one. Iris is a widow. Raphael's father was the leader of the Lords of Chaos. He also has a huge scar on his face.

It has been a while since I have read a book in this series. I had to refresh my memory about the times and characters. It didn't take long for me to be right back in the story. I think I say every one was the best. If this one isn't, it's close. You'll see why! It is full of fun, romance, intrigue, and mystery. Recommend!
