Historical Romance- This book is mainly set in Scotland in the beginning of the nineteenth century. I usual enjoy this authors books. But this one was a little flat. The story just didnt have an easy flow seemed the words were forced.

Originally titled as The Generous Earl, this novel was entirely rewritten as a historical romance by Coulter in 1995. It is the story of Ian Carmichael, who has just been named the Scottish earl of Penderleigh-and guardian to the old earl's beautiful granddaughter. And while she may have eyes only for Ian, he is engaged to another.

Also titled The Generous Earl. One of my more favorite romance novels.

Spirited Scottish beauty Brandy Robertson is appalled to discover that Ian Carmichael, an English duke, has inherited her family earldom. That this foreigner is also her new guardian is even more intolerable. But when Ian visits her castle, Brandy discovers that he is handsome, charming, generous--and set to wed a woman he doesn't love.

from the back: So come back to the beginning of the nineteenth century to Scotland, to Penderleigh Castle, home of the Robertsons, who have just been dealt a terrible blow. Their new master, already an English duke, has just been named the Scottish earl of Penderleigh.

Ian Carmichael, Duke of Portmaine, is proud, aristocratic, handsome as the devil's right hand, and kinder than any grousing Robertson has a right to expect. Brandy Robertson-the old earl's grandaughter-takes one look at the duke and her heart goes ballistic. The problem is the duke is already engaged and if that isn't bad enough someone wants to kill him. One of the embittered Robertsons? There are lots of juicy suspects to choose from.
