I've read a number of Georgette Heyer's mysteries and have more on my TBR list. This one is my favorite so far. I found it amusing when I realize that, while the first murder takes place during a Bridge card game party, there are actually two reasons for the book's title. I consider this just another indication of Heyer's clever writing.

I also want to pass on to other members that I realized early on there is no need to read these in chronological order. So, just request what is out there.

And you might want to visit her page in Fantastic Fiction to learn more about her. As she pretty much set the standards followed by Agatha Christi, Patricia Wentworth, Josephine Tey, and other British female mystery writers.

While Heyer was very popular when she lived---so popular that other romance authors copied some of her work---she was often overlooked after she died.

For more on this, visit her Wikipedia page for some enlightening information on her career, and an especially wicked tidbit on Barbara Cartland for those who read Romance.

I have to admit reading only her mysteries. The only Romance I read on a regular basis are Westerns (often called Men's Romance).

First murder mystery by G. Heyer I've read. While I like her style for romance, the same style does not quite work for me for murder mystery. Overall, good. But took a while to get into it.
