This book has lots of almost believable situations:

Kidnappings and near kidnappings
Shoot outs and attempted shoot outs
A group of anarchists at least 25 years in existence with an unexplained goal
Memory erasing and memory restorations
Conflict between mother and daughter
Conflict between son and father
A psychopathic young woman who wants to kill the local sheriff and his wife
And the kicker - the book ends with a cliff hanger
