Dusty Locks and the Three Bears
Dusty Locks and the Three Bears
Author: Susan Lowell, Randy Cecil (Illustrator)
This is a twist on the traditional "Goldilocks and the Three Bears". The story is set in the American West, where the bears are grizzly bears, and Dusty Locks doesn't like to take a bath.

Not a very good book. (Wish I wouldn't have gotten it...!) I had such high hopes that this would be like a lot of books that come with a "Western" slant to them. There were a few cute wordings but then the author went and RUINED the book my having the little girl say bad words. (Page 11. "She howled louder then ten thousand coyotes. And Dusty Locks said a very bad word.") WHY have that in there??!!! In a children's book...!! The author made her a mean, awful, ornery little girl, she could have done better by the book and just made her a cute/ornery little girl. Those children can still be fun to be around. This little girl...you wouldn't want your children to be around. Not a very good book.

I suppose it would make a good read-aloud if you used a western accent. There isn't much different or imaginative about the story to make it remarkable, though.
