D.I. Kim Stone is responding to a call about a girl threatening to jump off a roof at an elite boarding school. When she arrives, the girl is on the ground dead. Kim looks at the scene and senses that something is not right. The medical examiner's report confirms that thirteen-year-old Sadie Winters was murdered. While talking to the school staff and students at Heathcrest Academy, Kim realizes that Sadie had no friends. She kept herself away from everyone else, writing in her diary which no one can find among her belongings. As the team investigates secret societies, hazing, and bullies at the school, another student is found murdered. Kim knows that it is only a matter of time before the killer strikes again. She is determined to get to the bottom of these murders before another body is found.

This is the eighth book in the Kim Stone series and Angela Marsons just keeps topping herself with each book. This school had secret societies, four clubs that were named after playing cards. We learned that only the students from elite families were invited into these clubs...and you never turned down an invitation.

Figuring out who is killing the students and the reason behind it was not easy. Was it a student? Was the killer part of the school faculty? The ending of the story was memorable and will impact future stories in this series. My rating: 5 Stars.
