92 PAGES! Note this is a 92 pg. book! It clearly says it's 92 pages in the book details, but I must have missed it. Just very surprised when I received it. Original price of $2.99
Not Thomas' best work. Small book, less than 100 pages. Alright.
At 92 pages, this is definitely a quick read! The story takes place in Texas, where Cooper Adams has a ranch. His 3 old-maid sisters have come from Dallas to help him find a wife. This time, they seem determined Cooper is now 30 years of age and moving past his prime.
Cooper is very resistant to their plans of marrying him off to anyone who will take him. He refuses the party the 3 sisters are planning, to no avail. Like death and taxes, these ladies will collect their due whether Cooper likes it or not.
The day after the sisters arrive, Winnie (the youngest) starts to shop at the second general store in town. This ramshackle mercantile is run by an ex-Union soldier (Miles Woodburn) and his sister, Mary. They are having a tough time eking out an existence in this southern state.
The interesting thing about this novella is how much life Jodi Thomas breathes into this quick read. It doesnt take long for the reader to really care about the characters and their situation.
As a separate book, "Easy on the Heart" is hard to find. However, it has been reprinted as part of a compilation, "How to Lasso a Cowboy." Copies of "How to Lasso a Cowboy," are much easier to find.
