I got an eGalley of this book through NetGalley(dot)com. This is the third book in the Living with the Dead series. I really enjoyed this book and thought it was the best in the series so far. The book is hilarious and lots of fun, but in this installment there is also a complicated and intriguing plot too. Petersen isn't contacted for any more books in this series, but has said she might consider self-publishing more in the future. Shambling in the Dead was recently released and that is a short story set in the same world but with different characters. Petersen also released an anthology set in this world called In the Dead.

Sarah and David have been through a lot. David survived his bite and him and Sarah are on their way to the Wall with a cure that could change everything. Then things start going strange...or at least stranger than normal. David is getting stronger, he doesn't need much sleep, and he breathes out more than he breathes in...is he really cured? On their way to the wall Sarah and David are joined by a celebrity news reporter and a drugged up ex-rockstar and from there on things go completely to hell.

This was hands down the best book in this series. Sarah and David remain hilarious as usual. Sarah continues to spout whatever comes to mind without really thinking about it and thinks the funniest things while surviving the apocalypse. The new side characters that join the story are very funny as well. Some how the book remains funny without ever really going over the top.

This book had a bit of something special that made it more than just another fluffy, funny zombie read (hey, they do exist). This book has a very solid plot that is far-reaching and intriguing. Sarah and David have a solid goal in sight, get the cure to the rest of humanity. Along the way though they are privy to a number of interesting complications...we are talking big time conspiracy stuff that added a lot of depth to the story.

The other thing that really made this book engaging was David's strange and mysterious powers. You never knew what he was going to do next and watching how he changed over the course of the book was awesome.

The story wrapped up nicely, but there is definitely room for more adventures for Sarah and David. I was disappointed when I heard that no more books were planned for this series, it's just finally getting really, really good!

Overall I really enjoyed this installment in the Living with the Dead series. This book is hilarious, lots of fun, and has an incredibly engaging plot. Unlike previous books this book was more than just fluff and fun (although there's nothing wrong with that either). This book has a far-reaching plot and some mysterious things going on. Of course it has the usual laugh out loud parts, the blowing up of numerous zombies, and the awesome action scenes that we saw in previous books. If you like your zombies with a large dose of humor definitely check out this series, it is a lot of fun!

Sarah and David's quest to reach the Wall takes on twists and turns as new characters are added and new abilities are revealed. This book makes you laugh (Sarah is so snarky) and makes you cry. A wonderful portrayal of what life would be like in an apocalyse.
